Exiles of Theia.

Revisit Theia, the doomed planet as the search for a technology to save the people from the sharing its fate.

Broken

Exiled

Theia is doomed. Long ago, an archeologist discovered an ancient artifact that unlocked the technology to open a rift in space-time. Unfortunately, the discovery resulted in a catastrophe. Activating the ancient portal caused a singularity of such magnitude that its gravitational pull drew a rain of asteroids upon the planet and destroyed one of Theia’s two moons. Before the singularity dissipated, the orbit of Theia had been irrecoverably altered. In fairness to my ancestor, Arn Ad-Emn, he did try to prevent the calamity from happening. He did not set out to destroy the world. For his efforts he was exiled.

Possessing the journal of Arn Ad-Emn and being of his bloodline, I feel an obligation to aid those who seek to create an exodus from Theia. I cannot say whether my service is meant as a token of atonement or to honor the memory of my ancestor. His saga is what led me to accept employment from the Guild, with the pledge to see that its projects continue to advance technology.

The Guild

The Toth Science Guild, a small but industrious group, remains the only organization dedicated to building a solution that might allow future generations an opportunity to escape the inevitable collision between Theia and Ga’aa. Admittedly, it was a faint hope. Nonetheless, as a drowning victim may clutch at straws, however faint or distant, it was hope.

Toth’s adherents, the core of the Toth Guild of Science, have been openly scorned by many different groups. I find it understandable—rejection of the technology that sealed the fate of Theia. Among many, there is little faith that the science that caused the problems Theiacians face would generate a solution. Even if research reached a point where a stable window of space-time could be opened, what lies beyond is devoid of certainty at this point. Does one take an unknown path if it leads nowhere?

In theory, the exiles of Theia would become like our ancestors, Ashi’aa, the Travelers. Whether my ancestors will appreciate my efforts, or the name of Bran Ad-Emn will be forgotten by then, I don’t know. Life offers many challenges and few guarantees.

I fear that the exiles, remnants of a once-thriving world, will not have an easy existence. But I fear more our species will not live to become exiles, only particles scattered on the solar winds. I am not sure where my life’s journey will take me. In the tradition of my ancestor, Arn Ad-Emn, I will keep a journal in hopes that some distant future travelers might bring with them a record of the efforts that made them exiles rather than ghosts of Theia.

Bran Ad-Emn, a graduate of Shua’ Esh State University and descendent of Arn Ad-Emn, was admitted to the Toth Guild of Science after getting a degree in engineering. Eventually he achieved the title of Chief of Guild Security. In a world tossed into chaos it is not an easy task. Anything can happen when everyone on the planet knows the world is coming to a certain end!
